BAGHDAD CENTRAL: DESERT GUNNER - PC

Hints, Tips and Cheats

  • Shoot stuff ahead as much as possible and before it accumulates around you.
  • Lookout for RPG insurgents they are quite lethal.
  • Pay attention to target priorities. This may not seem important in early levels, but those early levels are good practice for later ones.
  • Check the help menu for game displays and instructions.
  • Use the mouse to aim and shoot (left mouse button to shoot the primary weapon. right mouse button for secondary).
  • Use the arrow keys to change vehicles and weapons. Up and down the convoy (up and down arrows).
  • When in trouble use the "M" key to shoot lock-on missiles.

System Requirements

    The following is a description of the minimum system requirements for BAGHDAD CENTRAL: DESERT GUNNER. If your system does not meet or exceed these requirements, then the game will run incorrectly, or not at all.

    Minimal:

    • IBM PC or 100% compatible computer
    • Pentium III-750 MHz or faster processor
    • Windows ME, 2000, or XP
    • 128 MB RAM
    • 100 MB free hard drive space
    • OpenGL Compatible 3D Graphics Accelerator (64MB recommended)
    • DirectX compatible Soundcard

Recommended:

    • IBM PC or 100% compatible computer
    • Pentium IV 2.0 GHz or faster processor
    • Windows ME, 2000, or XP
    • 512 MB RAM
    • 300 MB free hard drive space
    • OpenGL Compatible 3D Graphics Accelerator (256MB recommended)
    • DirectX compatible Soundcard

* Compatible with DirectXversion 9.0a or higher

Installation and Reinstallation

Installing the software is easy, to install the software, simply follow these steps:

    1. Download the Software from the link from whatever site you're in.
    2. Run the "BaghdadCentralDesertGunner-dm.exe"
    3. Once downloaded a Setup Wizard window will prompt you to install the software.
    4. Click next.
    5. Follow the on-screen instructions.

To reinstall the software, simply follow these steps:

    1. Go to "C:\Program files\Trymedia\ActiveMARK\licenses\". This folder is created when you buy the software.
    2. Save the file(s) in this folder to a floppy disk. These are the license files.
    3. Download the software from the same site where you downloaded it the first time.
    4. Copy the license file(s) you saved on the floppy back to the folder "C:\Program files\Trymedia\ActiveMARK\licenses"
      You will have full access to the software again. If you lost your license without backing it up on a floppy you will have to renew your license.

DirectX Installation

    This game requires that Microsoft's DirectX version 9.0a or higher be installed on your computer prior to playing the game. For more information please go to How-to FAQ

    If you do not already have DirectX version 9.0a or higher installed on your machine, or you need to reinstall for any reason, just follow these steps:

    • Get the latest drivers go to: http://www.microsoft.com/directx.
    • Download the latest driver/s
    • RIGHT click on the game icon.
    • LEFT click on "Open".
    • Double click the "DirectX" folder.
    • Once downloaded double click the Dxsetup.exe icon.
    • Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.
    • Ignore any warnings you may receive by clicking on YES.
    • Restart Windows to complete the installation.

    WARNING: While DirectX 9.0a should be able to determine what version of DirectX currently resides on a system and halt the installation if it deems it to be harmful or unnecessary, you should not attempt to install DirectX 9.0a on a Windows system running a more recent version of DirectX.

    How to determine what version of DirectX you have installed on your Windows 95 or 98 system:

    1. Click Start, then Run.
    2. In the Open box, type "DXDIAG"
    3. If the DirectX Diagnostic Tool launches, you are at least running DirectX 5.0. To see what version, note the bottom line in the System Information box on the first page, "DirectX Version". Click Exit in the lower right hand corner of the window when you are finished.
    4. If you receive an error that starts with "Cannot find the file 'DXDIAG'Ö", then click OK, which should return you to Step 2. Type "DXINFO"
    5. If this launches a DXINFO program, the left-hand pane contains information about what version of DirectX is installed, with the version number in the hundredths slot of the "DirectX Version (Registry)" entry. (For example, 4.05 is DirectX 5.)
    6. If you receive the error in Step 4 again, you do not have DirectX installed on your system. Follow the directions above to install it.

Troubleshooting

    NOTE: Many of the problems our customers have with this game stem from a system using a video card with not enough Video RAM on it. Please be SURE your video card has at least 64 MB of Video RAM, or this game will not work! Contact your computer or video card manufacturer if you need help determining if your video card meets this requirement.

"The Installer starts to copy files, but then just quits to the desktop."

    Make sure that you have enough hard drive space available on your system before installing. If you don't have at least 100 Megabytes free, the game can't install.


"I receive an error message stating that I do not have enough memory to run the game."

    This will occur if the system does not have the required amount of RAM in order to run the game. Baghdad Central: Desert Gunner requires a system with at least 64MB of RAM in order to run. You should ensure that all background applications are closed when you install, and check the rest of the system components such as the video card to make sure they also meet the minimum requirements for the game.

"I receive an error message: 'Error Move Data Process 115'."

    This error comes up during the installation process when you a) have selected the root directory of a drive as the install point, or b) do not have enough free drive space to run the game.

    To fix this, make sure you are installing the program to an actual folder on your hard drive (or go with the suggested defaults), ensure that all background applications are closed when you install, and make sure you have the 100 MB free on your hard drive that the program requires for installation.

"I receive an error message about a missing DDRAW.DLL, D3D.DLL, or DSOUND.DLL file."

    This is an indication that DirectX was not successfully installed. You should try reinstalling DirectX.

"I receive an error message that reads "Cannot create primary surface."

    If you are receiving this error, there is a good chance your video card does not have enough memory on it to properly run this game. Baghdad Central: Desert Gunner requires a video card with at least 64 MB of RAM onboard in order to function properly. Please check with your video card documentation or the card's manufacturer to determine if your card meets the requirements to play the game.

Unexplained Lockups and Crashes Back to Top

"During Launch, the screen just turns black or quits back to Windows without any error message."

    There are several things that you can try to fix this problem:

    1. Shut down any other applications that you may have running on your system such as screen savers, virus
    2. scanners, etc.
    3. Turn down video hardware acceleration in the Windows control panel.
    4. Try resetting your computer's video resolution to 640x480 with 16-bit color.
    5. Update your video card drivers.

"The game randomly freezes, crashes, or locks up the computer."

    First, shut down all other applications that may be running on your computer. Other applications can interfere with the game's operation. For instructions on how to do this, please see our Windows ME/2000/XP General Troubleshooting FAQ.

    If this doesn't help, then the software drivers that Windows uses to communicate with your hardware may be out of date, or incompatible with the game. Install the latest DirectX compatible drivers available for your video and sound card from the card's manufacturer. If you have already updated to the latest driver version from the manufacturer and the problem persists, you may want to see if reference drivers are available from the video chip manufacturer. Reference drivers are usually more standardized than the manufacturer's versions and may work better with a wider variety of games.

"I can't hear any sound or music in the game."

    First, check your speakers to make sure that they are turned on, connected properly to the rest of the system, and that the volume controls are turned up. If they are, then check your windows volume controls by clicking on the small yellow speaker icon on your taskbar.

    If you have already tried the solutions above and still can't hear sound, then you'll need to update your sound card drivers to the latest versions available.

DirectX and Driver Problems Back to Top

    This game uses Microsoft's DirectX for all graphics and sound effects. It cannot run properly unless DirectX version 9.0a or higher is installed on your computer. It may also exhibit problems if the video card and/or sound card in your computer are not 100% DirectX compliant.

Standard Troubleshooting Back to Top

"I've encountered a problem that was not mentioned in this document."

    1. REBOOT your computer after installation, especially if you needed to install or update DirectX. Several updated system files are copied to your hard drive during installation, which can't take effect until you reboot.
    2. Make sure that your system meets the minimum system requirements as listed on the box and at the top of this document. If your system does not meet or exceed the minimum requirements, it will run poorly, or not at all.
    3. Shut down all other programs that you may have running on your system before playing. Other programs can interfere with the operation of the game. For detailed instructions on shutting down all of your other applications, please see our WindowsME/2000/XP General Troubleshooting FAQ.
    4. Make sure you have plenty of room left on your hard drive, or Windows may not have enough room for a swap file. This can cause some very strange problems. (As a general rule, make sure you have at least 100 MB free on your C: drive for your swap file.)
    5. Try uninstalling, and then re-installing the game.
