The CHG (California Historical Group) was founded in 1979 and incorporated in 1992 as an IRC501(c)(3) educational not for profit organization. Our sole propose is to preserve World War Two history as an educational experience through historical reenactments, uniform, vehicle, and equipment restorations and static displays.

Historical reenacting has been on the hobby scene for many years, the most visible being American Civil War reenacting that began around 1900.  World War Two reenacting started in Europe in the late 1960s to commemorate the D-Day anniversaries there.  It started in earnest in the USA with the formation of the Historical Reenactment Society in the mid 1970’s.  It began to be taken seriously as a mainstream hobby with the commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the D-Day invasions in 1994, and received further stimulation through the release of such feature films as “Saving Private Ryan” and “Band of Brothers.  Since the year 2000, World War Two reenacting has become one of the fastest growing hobbies in the USA. This aspect of reenacting has approximately 3,000+ active members throughout the USA.  It is through our organization that we choose to reenact historical events and create our nostalgic static displays.

Our organization is based in California and we usually meet once a month to accomplish this.  Our unit members consist of military historians, collectors, vehicle and weapon enthusiasts, students, businessmen and professionals who share an interest in the historical aspects of the European theatre of World War Two.
